Hey Socialographers! Here’s a short roundup of some of my favorite digital marketing quick tips! Future blog posts will feature expanded coverage on best practices, ideas, suggestions and answers to any questions you might have related to these tips!

TIP 1: Add a blog to your website.

If your company’s website doesn’t already have an active blog section, stop what you’re doing right now and go create one. Blogging is one of the most beneficial digital marketing tools a business can use. Why? Three words – Search. Engine. Optimization. Just like you would buy insurance to cover your business, home, car, person, etc. for the long term, you would start a blog (and update it every month, at least) for the long term benefit of your business. I say “long term benefit” because successful SEO is part up-front (or short-term) investment in advertising and optimization of your website, and part long-term content marketing via your blog.

Adding a blog to your website shouldn’t be a difficult process, and writing blog posts shouldn’t be either. Start by making a list of keywords that are relevant to your business, and then come up with 3 – 5 topics for each keyword on your list. Use these to inspire your blog content, and post a ~500-word blog once a month, or more, if possible.

If writing isn’t your strong suit, don’t worry! You’ll get better with practice, I promise. The most important part is to start! Or, if you have the budget, I would suggest contracting a copywriter proficient in SEO practices to write for your blog.

TIP 2: Set up an auto-responder email series.

One of my tips for beginners was to start collecting email addresses in a CRM or email marketing system. Once you’ve started this process, the next step is to USE your list and stay in contact with your subscribers via an automated email series. This can be anything from a weekly, or monthly, newsletter with a roundup of your latest blog posts, business updates, offers, deals, etc. or an email series centered around a specific product or service you are trying to sell.

Email marketing continues to have one of the highest ROIs amongst digital marketing tactics, and is not something your business can afford to ignore. Email communication with your audience, whether they’ve already done business with you or not, is imperative to the growth of your company.
Depending on which email marketing or CRM system you’re using, you should be able to set up an email series pretty quickly and easily.

TIP 3: Get engaged… on social media, that is.

Social media marketing involves so much more than setting up an account and posting once in a while. There are certain types of behaviors that are rewarded by social media platforms, and one of them is… being social. 😮 But what exactly does that mean? It means, it’s time for you to get engaged! 💍

Social media engagement includes normal activities such as commenting, liking, sharing, following, etc., but with a purpose.

  • Commenting: This includes replying to comments on your posts, but should also include commenting on posts related to your business/industry, in an authentic way. Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through on your company’s social media account. If you come across a post you genuinely like and want to engage with, feel free to comment with your genuine reaction… but PLEASE don’t go around the internet commenting “great post!” everywhere just to be seen.
  • Liking: This is one of my favorite engagement activities. It’s an easy way to spread some love (or likes), get seen, and at the same time discover new accounts and profiles in your industry. Instead of just scrolling through your existing feed, venture out by searching for a specific topic or keywords related to your business, scroll through the search results, and like the posts that catch your eye.
  • Sharing: Let other people help you with your social media content, by sharing posts from other accounts. That’s right, you don’t have to be the only one coming up with all the post ideas! Share posts from other social media accounts, related to your industry, to stay active and engaged. Just be sure you’re not sharing posts from a direct competitor.
  • Following: One of the first things you should do after setting up your social media account is start following other accounts. But this isn’t a one-and-done type of activity. Finding new accounts to follow, and further building your social media community should be an on-going activity.
